Faced with a disciplined, compact Getafe side that refused to give an inch, Real Madrid struggled for long stretches before their opponents shot themselves in the foot with two red cards. Kylian Mbappé seized the moment to pull Madrid out of trouble and deliver all three points.

The first half felt like a one-sided siege. Determined not to leave space in behind, Getafe dropped deep and forced Real into a painfully slow tempo. Aside from Mbappé, who tried to inject some life into Madrid’s attack, the other forwards disappeared — Rodrygo was anonymous, and Mastantuono lacked spark and creativity. The result was a half of dull, sterile possession football.

The second half seemed destined for more of the same until the introduction of Arda Güler changed everything. The young Turkish playmaker immediately brought energy between the lines, and every touch he took added a sense of danger. Following Allan Nyom’s red card for Getafe, Güler received the ball from Militao, turned gracefully, and slipped it through for Mbappé to score his 18th goal in all competitions.

The chemistry between Güler and Mbappé grows clearer with every match — the Turk’s vision and touch perfectly complement the Frenchman’s sharp movement.

With this narrow victory, Real Madrid return to the top of La Liga with 24 points, two ahead of Barcelona. And next weekend brings the long-awaited clash: El Clásico, Sunday at 4:15 p.m.
