High pressing, forward play, and clear attacking intent — Morocco came out determined to take control of the match, and it showed in their dominance over Cameroon. Forced into long balls and repeatedly losing physical duels against the Moroccan defense, Cameroon were quickly overwhelmed. It was therefore only logical that the Atlas Lions opened the scoring. From a set piece, El Kaabi flicked the ball on for Brahim Díaz, who netted his fifth goal of the tournament. Morocco have found their hero, and his name is Brahim Díaz.

In the second half, Cameroon tried to push closer to the Moroccan penalty area, but their moves lacked technical precision. Despite a penalty shout waved away after Massina clipped Mbeumo, Morocco doubled their lead once again from a set piece. Saïbari, left unmarked at the far post, scored his first goal of the competition — the goal that sends Morocco into the semifinals for the first time since 2004.
