Review of Ligue 1 Day 9, Saturday october 25th

A Saturday dedicated to the top of the table, with Paris, Marseille, and Monaco all in action — and mixed fortunes for the three French Champions League representatives.

PSG back on top

Paris Saint-Germain comfortably brushed aside Brest to reclaim first place in Ligue 1, thanks largely to a brace from Achraf Hakimi.

Despite the scoreline, Brest still caused problems for the Parisian defense and could have changed the game after a handball by Lee led to a long VAR review and a controversial penalty decision. But the spot kick was sent soaring somewhere near the planet Neptune, and when you miss your chances to hurt PSG, punishment always follows. Désiré Doué added the third to seal another commanding Parisian victory.

First win for Pocognoli at Monaco

It wasn’t pretty, but it was priceless. A narrow, hard-fought 1–0 win gave Sébastien Pocognoli his first success as Monaco manager. The decisive moment came early, in the 3rd minute, when Ghanaian defender Mohamed Salisu stayed up after a set piece to head home.

After that, Monaco clung to their slim lead but again showed their familiar flaws in front of goal. Just like against Tottenham in midweek, opposing goalkeeper Guillaume Restes was brilliant, denying Monaco multiple chances to kill the game. A much-needed win, but plenty of work ahead for Pocognoli’s men.

Marseille and self-sabotage : a love story

If there were an Olympic discipline for shooting yourself in the foot, Marseille would be perennial gold medalists. After collapsing midweek in Lisbon, the OM managed to outdo themselves again — gifting Lens a comeback win.

Everything started well when Mason Greenwood opened the scoring, but two self-inflicted wounds undid it all: an own goal from Benjamin Pavard and a clumsy penalty conceded by the same player.

Another nightmare week for Marseille, who turn every promising scenario into a disaster of their own making.
