Bayern Munich pulled off an impressive comeback against Sporting, securing a 3–1 win after initially falling behind. It was a hard-fought victory, made more complicated by the brilliance of goalkeeper Rui Silva.
- Bayern 3-1 Sporting : Gnabry 65’, Karl 69’, Tah 77’ – Kimmich o.g 59’
The Portuguese keeper was outstanding, denying Bayern on four major chances and frustrating Harry Kane, who hit the post in the 37th minute and struggled to find space throughout the first half. Sporting’s game plan—absorb pressure and strike on the counter—nearly paid off as Bayern lacked sharpness in front of goal.
Early in the second half, things got even worse for Bayern when Sporting struck on a counterattack, with Joshua Kimmich inadvertently turning the ball into his own net. But the goal sparked a much-needed reaction. Bayern significantly increased their tempo and finally broke through the Lisbon defense. In the 65th minute, Serge Gnabry leveled the score, left completely unmarked at the far post on a corner. Just four minutes later, young prospect Lennart Karl put Bayern ahead, and Jonathan Tah sealed the win shortly after.
With this result, Bayern move joint-top of their Champions League group, pending Arsenal’s upcoming match.
