Premier League Barometer : sunday

Three matches, one banger, and one surprise on the Sunday Premier League menu.

Top of the day : Manchester United

Facing Fulham at Old Trafford, Manchester United managed to come out on top in a wild match. First, United looked superior to some naïve Cottagers. Caught off a set piece on Casemiro’s opening goal, Manchester United then took control, highlighted by the solid Maguire–Martínez center-back pairing. The 2–0 goal came from a well-executed counterattack finished by Cunha.

But then, chaos took over Old Trafford. With the introduction of Brazilian winger Kevin, Fulham started creating more chances, and United’s decision to drop deeper played right into their hands. Fulham first scored from the penalty spot, then struck again thanks to the talent of their Brazilian winger, who curled a beautiful shot into the net.

And that’s when Manchester United pushed the game into the irrational, with a third goal scored by Šeško.

Manchester United reclaim fourth place and start looking upward.

Flop of the day : Aston Villa

A terrible afternoon for the Villans. At a time when Manchester United and Chelsea are improving and stacking up wins, Aston Villa stumble, losing their second match in three games. Against a solid Brentford side, Villa failed to find a breakthrough and fell to a goal from Dango Ouattara.

Aston Villa are now losing ground to the Arsenal–City duo and must start looking over their shoulder.

Goal of the day : Kevin

Kevin Machado is left with mixed emotions. Torn between his magical goal and his team’s result, he can’t fully enjoy an exceptional strike. A right-footed curling shot, just the way we love them.

A goal that reflects a strong season so far for the young Brazilian.
