After an intense second half, Real Madrid came out on top against Atlético and closed the gap to four points behind Barcelona.

Dominating doesn’t always mean winning, and Real learned that the hard way. Eager to build on their impressive qualification against Manchester City, Real started strong by pinning Atlético back and creating three big chances through Carvajal, Valverde, and Vinicius. Frustrated by Atlético’s outstanding defensive display and a commanding performance from Musso in goal, Los Blancos were caught off guard by a brilliant counterattack led by Simeone and finished by a smart winter signing: Ademola Lookman.

Under pressure and pushed back, Atlético eventually lost the advantage they had fought hard to gain before halftime. Diaz won a penalty that Vinicius calmly converted, and just minutes later, on a loose ball from the back, Gimenez was dispossessed by Valverde, who slotted it into the net.

From there, the match exploded into chaos and seemed to swing back in Atlético’s favor when Nahuel Molina scored a stunning equalizer. Despite Real regaining the lead through Vinicius, Valverde was sent off, seemingly opening the door for Atlético. However, no further goals were scored, and the match ended with Real Madrid holding on for the win.
