Under pressure and pushed back, Atlético eventually lost the advantage they had fought hard to gain before halftime. Diaz won a penalty that Vinicius calmly converted, and just minutes later, on a loose ball from the back, Gimenez was dispossessed by Valverde, who slotted it into the net.
From there, the match exploded into chaos and seemed to swing back in Atlético’s favor when Nahuel Molina scored a stunning equalizer. Despite Real regaining the lead through Vinicius, Valverde was sent off, seemingly opening the door for Atlético.
