Group C: Nigeria Qualified, Tunisia Saved by the Draw Between Uganda and Tanzania

After a controlled performance with a chaotic finish, Nigeria secured qualification for the knockout stage of AFCON. Following a timid showing against Tanzania, the Super Eagles stepped up and defeated Tunisia in the Group C showdown. Dominant and clearly superior, Nigeria raced to a 3–0 lead. Osimhen opened the scoring with a brilliant header, Ndidi added a second early in the second half, and Lookman extended the advantage. However, defensive lapses must be addressed after conceding two goals and enduring a nerve-racking finish.

Tunisia were worrying in their performance, but they remain second in the group thanks to the draw between Uganda and Tanzania, who were both beaten on matchday one and failed to separate themselves.

Group D: Benin Victorious, Senegal and DR Congo Cancel Each Other Out

In the clash of the day, which felt like a rematch of their 2026 World Cup qualifying encounter, Senegal and DR Congo could not be separated. DR Congo had done the hard part through Bakambu, punishing Senegal for missed chances. But the introduction of PSG prodigy Ibrahim Mbaye changed everything. He was instrumental in setting up Sadio Mané’s equalizer, a goal that all but secures qualification for both teams to the round of 16.

Meanwhile, Benin claimed victory against Botswana, putting the Squirrels in a strong position.
