On a chaotic day in Senegal’s group, the knockout stage picture is becoming clearer.

Group C: Nigeria Finish Strong on Top

Nigeria became the first team at this Africa Cup of Nations to finish with a perfect nine points. After a comfortable match against Uganda, Nigeria won 3–1 and are gradually asserting themselves as one of the tournament favorites.

Tunisia finish second after being held to a 1–1 draw by Tanzania. That result also sends Tanzania through, as they finish among the best third-placed teams.

We already know that Tunisia will face Mali in round of 16

Group D: Senegal Finish First Ahead of DR Congo

In a wild match against Benin, where Senegal were reduced to ten men following Kalidou Koulibaly’s red card, the Lions still managed to win 3–0 and narrowly secure first place. Senegal will therefore face either Burkina Faso or Sudan.

Despite winning by the same scoreline against Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo failed to claim top spot in Group D and will now face Algeria in the round of 16, in a matchup that promises to be explosive.
