For this shock of the 4th UEFA Champions League matchday, Liverpool received Real Madrid at Anfield. The Reds needed to bounce back after a terrible run.
At the 27′ minute, Florian Wirtz run in counterattack after a mistake from Dean Huijsen and found Dominik Szoboszlai who could not win his one-on-one against Thibaut Courtois. Real Madrid had the ball possession for the main part of the game (70%) but their chances were not as dangerous as Liverpool’s ones.
At the 33′ minute, Liverpool could have been awarded a penalty after a handball from Aurélien Tchouaméni, but the foul was outside the box. The game was really tense thanks to Liverpool’s momentum, but Thibaut Courtois saved his teammates after multiple saves in the first half. 0-0 at the break.
In the second half, the same scenario set off as Virgil van Dijk almost scored after a corner, but Courtois saved once again his team with a brilliant save. Liverpool finally got awarded for their efforts at the 61′ minute, Alexis Mac Allister scored after a free-kick from Szoboszlai.
After that, Real Madrid only had one great chance to equalize with Kylian Mbappe, but the frenchman shot out of target.
With this important win, Liverpool are now temporarily 6th in UEFA Champions League with 9 points. Real Madrid are 5th with 9 points too.
