- Atletico Madrid 5-2 Real Madrid : Le Normand 14’, Sorloth 45+2’, Alvarez 52’, 64’, Griezmann 90+4 – Mbappé 25’, A.Guler 37’
Unconvincing so far this season despite a promising transfer window, Atlético Madrid finally delivered their statement performance by thrashing their bitter rivals, Real Madrid.
Atlético came out flying, setting a furious pace and creating the early chances. Robin Le Normand’s opening goal was no more than deserved. In fact, Atlético could easily have been up 2-0 if not for their attackers’ lack of precision. In a nightmare start for Real, the visitors had to rely on what works best: Kylian Mbappé. Capping off a fine move, he struck to make it 1-1, settling his team down. Soon after, Arda Güler put Madrid ahead 2-1, but Atlético hit back quickly through Alexander Sørloth, who dominated in the air to level things again.
That wild first half gave way to a second period that turned into a Rojiblancos showcase against an overwhelmed Madrid side. Julián Álvarez converted a penalty to make it 3-2 and later completed a superb brace with a stunning free kick. Antoine Griezmann then added the exclamation point with Atlético’s fifth, sealing a brilliant 5-2 victory.

After six wins from six, Real Madrid’s perfect start came to a crashing halt, and Barcelona now has the chance to take over at the top of the league.
