Manchester City dispatches Burnley with ease

  • MANCHESTER CITY 5-1 BURNLEY : Esteve O.G 12’, 65’, Nunes 61’, Haaland 90’ 93’ – Anthony 38’

The Citizens took their time but ultimately handed Burnley a heavy beating, scoring five goals in a dominant display where several players shone.

Could Manchester City be the big winners of Matchday 6? Pep Guardiola’s men were the only title contenders to pick up a victory during Saturday’s dramatic multiplex, which saw both Liverpool and Chelsea stumble. With their third win of the season, City have climbed back into the pack of league leaders.

Burnley had come prepared to defend, and when Anthony equalized, it seemed like they might just escape the Etihad with something. His goal canceled out an early opener for City—an own goal by Maxime Estève. But Matheus Nunes soon restored City’s lead, and then the unfortunate Estève completed a nightmare afternoon by scoring a second own goal, gifting the hosts a comfortable cushion.

From there, Erling Haaland put the finishing touches on the rout with a brace. The Norwegian striker is already up to seven goals this season and looks to be firing on all cylinders once again.
