Denmark and Scotland side by side in Group C

Group C is shaping up exactly as expected — a fierce duel between Denmark and Scotland. Both sides remain unbeaten, with three wins and one draw apiece, and both kept their momentum going this weekend.

Denmark cruised past Greece with a convincing 3–1 win in a one-sided affair. The Danes led 3–0 by halftime, showcasing their usual efficiency and physical dominance. Rasmus Højlund continued his fine form from Napoli with another goal, Joachim Andersen reminded everyone of Denmark’s aerial power, and Mikkel Damsgaard capped off the display with a composed finish.

In Glasgow, Scotland had to grind out a tougher win against a spirited Belarus side. Che Adams opened the scoring early, but it took until the 84th minute for Scott McTominay to double the lead. A late Belarus goal deep into stoppage time could still prove costly in the goal-difference battle. With both nations tied atop the table, their November 18 clash at Hampden Park could very well decide who wins the group.

Dutch control, Poland pursuit in Group G

Over in Group G, the Netherlands hold a three-point edge over Poland but can’t afford to relax. The Oranje were ruthless against a weak Finland side, running out comfortable 4–0 winners. Memphis Depay converted from the spot in the 38th minute to extend his record as the nation’s all-time leading scorer, while Cody Gakpo put the finishing touch on a dominant night with a brilliant fourth goal late on.

Poland, meanwhile, stayed within striking distance thanks to a solid win over Lithuania. With just one game separating the two sides, all eyes now turn to Warsaw, where the November 14 showdown could determine who tops the group and who’s left chasing in the playoffs.

Heroic Faroe Island stun the Czechs

The shock of the day came from the Faroe Islands — a nation long seen as minnows in European qualifying. But this campaign has been different. After wins over Gibraltar and Montenegro, the Faroese stunned the Czech Republic 2–1 in Tórshavn. Hanus Sørensen opened the scoring in the 67th minute, and Martin Agnarsson sealed the upset after Lyon’s Adam Karabec had briefly equalized for the visitors.

The loss is a crushing blow for the Czechs, who would have retained first place in Group L with a victory. Instead, they slip behind Croatia, whose hard-fought win over Gibraltar keeps their qualification hopes intact. Zlatko Dalić’s men weren’t at their best, but they did enough to stay in command of the group.

Austria fall in Romania thriller

Romania kept their playoff hopes alive with a dramatic 1–0 win over Austria, secured by a last-gasp goal from Virgil Ghiță in the 94th minute. In a must-win game for the hosts, the Tricolores’ persistence paid off as they punished a wasteful Austrian side that had dominated for long spells but failed to finish.

The defeat is a wake-up call for Austria, who still control their fate in the group but can’t afford more slip-ups. Romania, meanwhile, head into their November clash with Bosnia knowing it’s all or nothing — win, or the dream of the 2026 World Cup fades away.
