Newcastle 3-0 Benfica
Anthony Gordon 32′ and Harvey Barnes 70′ and 83′.
Newcastle needed to bounce back after their loss against Brighton in Premier League, it is done for Eddie Howe’s players after this perfect 3-0 win at St James Park. The English dominated the Portuguese. José Mourinho was not able to find solutions against Newcastle who dominated the big part of the game. The first goal happened in the first half, Jacob Murphy found Anthony Gordon who already scored his 4th goal in Champions League this season. He showed himself again with an assist for Harvey Barnes at the 83′ minute. Barnes scored earlier at the 70′ minute with the assist from Newcastle’s goalkeeper Nick Pope ! Newcastle are now 7th in Champions League. Benfica are only 34th with 3 losses in as many games.
PSV 6-2 Napoli
Alessandro Buongiorno (OG) 35′, Ismael Saibari 38′, Dennis Man 54′ and 80′, Ricardo Pepi 86′ and Couhaib Driouech 89′ for PSV. Scott McTominay 31′ and 85′ for Napoli.
A flurry of goals at the Philips Stadion ! Antonio Conte’s Napoli team now lost 2 games in a row and this one needs to be forgotten as soon as possible. PSV were far better and even if Napoli got reduce to 10 men at the 76′ minute because of a red card against Lorenzo Lucca, they were never able to change the game. Scott McTominay scored a brace (31′ and 85′) but it was not enough as PSV’s attackers were on an other planet tonight. 4 different goal scorers and a performance to remember for Peter Bosz’s players who are now 11th. Napoli are 22nd.
USG 0-4 Inter Milan
Denzel Dumfries 41′, Lautaro Martinez 45+1′, Hakan Calhanoglu (penalty) 53′ and Francesco Esposito 76′.
Perfect 3 on 3 for Inter. The Italians now won all of their games so far in Champions League this season. The previous finalist did not give any chance to Union Saint-Gilloise’s players. They proved their superiority as they won the game 4-0 with a solid performance in every aspects of the game. Lautaro Martinez scored his 6th goal this season. Everyone was part of the party as Dumfries, Calhanoglu and Esposito all scored their goal. Inter Milan are now leading Champions League alongside Paris SG and Arsenal. USG are 23rd.
Copenhagen 2-4 Dortmund
Waldemar Anton (OG) 33′ and Viktor Dadason 90′ for Copenhagen. Felix Nmecha 20′ and 76′, Ramy Bensebaini (penalty) 61′ and Fabio Silva 87′ for Dortmund.
Another game with another great number of goals. In a pretty open opposition that saw a lot of twists and turns, it is Dortmund that picked up the win in Denmark after a crazy second half. 1-1 at the break between the two teams, and then Niko Kovac’s players woke up and scored 3 goals in 25 minutes that allowed them to win the game despite a 2nd goal scored by Copenhagen at the end of the game. Soccer fans can be happy with that kind of games. Dortmund are now 4th with 7 points. Copenhagen are 31st with only 1 point.
Kairat 0-0 Pafos
For this game between the two biggest outsiders of this year’s Champions League, fans could not be entertained as neither teams scored. However the scenario of the game was pretty interesting as Pafos created the best chances of the game despite playing with 10 men since the 4th minute because of a red card provoked by Joao Correia. Kairat had the ball and shot the most but were never able to pass Pafos’ defense. Defenses made aperfect work during the whole game. Kairat are 33rd with 1 point. Pafos are 26th with 2 points.
