For this shock in UEFA Champions League between two great European teams, especially in the defensive side (click here to see the article in question : https://the-soccer-legends.com/news/champions-league-tonight-atletico-vs-inter-and-a-defensive-masterclass/) the face-to-face lived up to all expectations and saw Atletico Madrid win 3 important points in front of their fans.

As expected, both teams were really good in the tactical aspect, neither team really had any clear chances throughout the entire game (0.99 xG for Atletico, 1.36 for Inter). But they were able to accumulate chances too : 15 shots for Atletico and 17 for Inter.

Federico di Marco almost opened the scoreline at the 2nd minute only, seeing Juan Musso save his shot after a great free-kick. In the 9′ minute, after a cross from Giuliano Simeone, Inter’s defense cleared the ball, but it fell to Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, who took advantage of the opportunity to shoot and score the first goal of the match (his 10th goal this season in all competitions).

The rest of the first half was dominated by the Italians, but they were unable to break through Atlético’s defense, like many before them.

After returning from the locker room, Inter continued to push for the equalizer, and Nicolo Barella saw his shot hit the crossbar at the 46′ minute. Fortunately for Inter, they finally equalized in the 54′ minute thanks to a goal from Piotr Zielinski. With the game tied, both teams began to increase the intensity and rack up the plays, especially for Atletico (Giuliano Simeone 59′, Antoine Griezmann 77′ and 90′, Marc Pubill 82′) all saves by Sommer.

And then in extra time, Atletico won a corner that saw José Maria Gimenez scores the game winner with a header, assist from Antoine Griezmann.

With this big win at the very last minute of the game, Atletico Madrid are now 12th in 9 points, Inter are still 4th with 12 points.
