Moldova have fielded a national team since 1990, playing in World Cup qualifying and their confederation’s tournaments.
Overview
The Moldova national football team represents Moldova in international association football and is governed by the Football Federation of Moldova, which was founded in 1990 following the country's independence from the Soviet Union. The team competes in UEFA competitions and has historically participated in World Cup and European Championship qualification campaigns without progressing to a major tournament finals. Moldova is generally regarded as one of the smaller football nations within Europe, and the squad has largely been composed of players active in domestic and regional leagues.
The team has not won any major senior international titles. Among the players associated with the current squad are C. Avram, D. Celeadnic, A. Cojuha, A. Kozhukhar, E. Tîmbur, and V. Baboglo. Moldova plays its home matches at the Zimbru Stadium in Chisinau. Progress in European and World Cup qualifying groups has been limited, though the team continues to participate regularly in FIFA and UEFA competitions.
