Lithuania have played international football since 1922, competing in FIFA World Cup qualifying and continental tournaments.

Overview

The Lithuania national football team represents the country in international association football and is governed by the Lithuanian Football Federation, which was founded in 1922. The team competes under UEFA and FIFA and has participated in qualification campaigns for the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship, though it has not advanced to the final stages of either tournament. Lithuania is generally regarded as a developing football nation within Europe.

The squad has included several players who have gained experience at club level across Europe. Current notable players include Ignas Plūkas, Tomas Švedkauskas, Arūnas Voitinovičius, Vytautas Armalas, Žygimantas Baltrūnas, and Justas Lasickas. The team has not won a major senior international title.

Lithuania plays its home matches in Vilnius and typically competes in the lower seedings of UEFA qualification groups. The federation continues efforts to develop domestic football infrastructure and raise the standard of the national programme.
