Ligue 1 2026/2027 top 5 prediction

Nathan Avatar

Our Ligue 1 2026/2027 top 5 prediction puts Paris Saint-Germain first once again, chasing a sixth straight title, with Lens, Lille, Rennes, and Lyon rounding out the top five. PSG won last season by six points and lifted the Champions League, and the Opta supercomputer still makes them champions in about 68 percent of its simulations. The real intrigue this year sits everywhere below No. 1.

Why this list matters

Ligue 1 is easy to dismiss as a procession, yet the chase behind PSG is genuinely open in 2026/2027. Twelve of the eighteen clubs changed head coach over the summer, the most managerial turnover the French top flight has seen this century.

That churn scrambles the pecking order. Some of last season’s challengers lost coaches or spending power, while a couple of quieter projects now look stronger. Here is how we see the top five landing when the dust settles in May.

5. Lyon

Endrick de Sousa of Lyon (L) celebrates his goal with his teammate Afonso Moreira of Lyon (R) during the Ligue 1 McDonald’s match between Metz and Lyon at Stade Saint-Symphorien on January 25, 2026 in Metz, France.

Lyon slot into fifth on the strength of a sharper attack. The loan signing of Loïs Openda gives them a real goal threat to build around, and a return to European nights should lift the Groupama Stadium.

The caveat is consistency. Lyon have the talent to finish higher, but distractions away from the pitch and a crowded schedule have tripped them before. If they stay steady, fifth is comfortably within reach.

  • Lyon’s Ligue 1 finish in 2025/26: 4th

4. Rennes

Rennes are our pick to climb, and the case starts up front. They kept Esteban Lepaul, the league’s leading scorer last season, and Franck Haise has had a full offseason to shape a squad that already looked settled.

Continuity is rare in this division right now, and Rennes have it. Several rivals rebuilt from scratch, so a side that simply held on to its best players and its manager carries a genuine edge into the fall.

  • Esteban Lepaul’s league goals in 2025/26: 21

3. Lille

Olivier Giroud of LOSC Lille celebrates scoring his team’s first goal with teammates during the UEFA Europa League 2025/26 Knockout Play-off Second Leg match between FK Crvena Zvezda and LOSC Lille at Stadion Rajko Mitić on February 26, 2026 in Belgrade, Serbia.

Lille land third on squad stability, even after a big change in the dugout. Bruno Génésio left for Marseille, and Davide Ancelotti steps into his first job as a lead manager at a club that finished third last term.

The playing group stayed largely intact, which matters in a season of upheaval. If Ancelotti settles quickly, Lille have the depth to hold a Champions League place through the winter.

  • Lille’s Ligue 1 finish in 2025/26: 3rd

2. Lens

Lens are our best of the rest. They pushed PSG to the final week last season, won the Coupe de France, and opened this campaign by beating the champions to lift the Trophée des Champions.

The worry is the bench. Architect Pierre Sage left for Crystal Palace, and Dino Toppmöller inherits a strong group but has to prove the system still works without its creator. Get that right and Lens are the likeliest team to trouble Paris again.

  • Points behind PSG in 2025/26: 6
Florian Thauvin of RC Lens celebrates after scoring his team’s first goal during the French Cup Semi Final between RC Lens and Toulouse FC at Stade Bollaert-Delelis on April 21, 2026 in Lens, France.

1. Paris Saint-Germain

Ousmane Dembele of Paris Saint-Germain celebrates scoring his team’s third goal from the penalty spot during the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Semi Final First Leg match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Bayern München at Parc des Princes on April 28, 2026 in Paris, France.

PSG are the runaway pick for a sixth consecutive title. Luis Enrique’s side are the reigning French and European champions, and no rival can match their depth, even when Enrique rotates heavily to keep his best players fresh for Europe.

The only real question is the margin. Paris were pushed harder than expected last year, yet the squad only got stronger over the summer, and the models see no serious threat. Anything other than another title would rank among the biggest upsets in recent Ligue 1 history.

  • PSG’s Opta title probability for 2026/27: 68.1%

The verdict

Our Ligue 1 2026/2027 top 5 prediction reads PSG, Lens, Lille, Rennes, and Lyon, in that order. PSG remain untouchable, and Lens are best placed to chase, with the coaching change the one thing that could unsettle them.

The biggest name to miss out is Marseille. A tight financial summer thinned the squad and blocked new arrivals, so Génésio starts with modest aims. Monaco, rebuilding under Filipe Luís, is the other side that could force its way into this list before spring.

Frequently asked questions
