Association Sportive de Saint-Étienne, commonly known as Saint-Étienne, is a French football club founded in 1920 and based in Saint-Étienne, in the Loire department. The club competes in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football, and plays its home matches at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, a ground with a long association with the club and a notably vocal supporter culture.
Saint-Étienne is the most decorated club in French football history by number of league titles, having won the first division championship on ten occasions, predominantly during the 1960s and 1970s. The club also reached the European Cup final in 1976, losing to Bayern Munich. Green is the dominant colour of the club's identity, and supporters are widely known as Les Verts.
