Overview

The Benin national football team represents the Republic of Benin in international association football and is governed by the Fédération Béninoise de Football, which was founded in 1962. The team competes under the nickname Les Écureuils, meaning the Squirrels. Benin is a member of the Confederation of African Football and participates in qualifying competitions for the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup. The team has qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations on several occasions, though it has not won a major senior international title.

The squad draws players from domestic clubs as well as from leagues across Europe and Africa. Current members of the national setup include goalkeeper S. Allagbé, defenders M. Dandjinou and A. Obassa, midfielders A. Amadou and C. Azongnitode, and forward Rodrigue Fassinou. The team continues to develop its competitive standing within the West African football landscape.
