Figo won the Ballon d’Or in 2000, the year he left Barcelona for Real Madrid. He was named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2001. He won La Liga with both clubs and the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2002. He captained Portugal in the Euro 2004 final, lost to Greece in Lisbon, and won 127 caps in all. He signed for Inter Milan in 2005 and won four Serie A titles there.
