Gullit won the Ballon d’Or in 1987 and dedicated it to Nelson Mandela, then imprisoned. He captained the Netherlands at Euro 1988 and headed the opening goal in the final against the Soviet Union. With AC Milan he won the European Cup in 1989 and 1990, and scored twice in the 1989 final against Steaua Bucharest. He later became player-manager at Chelsea, who won the FA Cup in 1997.
