Zico won three Brazilian championships and the 1981 Copa Libertadores with Flamengo. He set up all three goals against Liverpool in the 1981 Intercontinental Cup final in Tokyo. South America voted him its footballer of the year in 1977, 1981 and 1982. He scored 48 goals in 71 games for Brazil and played in the 1982 team that Italy knocked out in Barcelona. He joined Udinese in 1983, then moved to Kashima Antlers in 1991 as Japan built a professional league.
