Arsène Wenger signed Weah for Monaco in 1988. He scored 46 goals in 114 games for AC Milan and won two Serie A titles there. His 1995 Ballon d’Or remains the only one awarded to an African player. Liberia never qualified for a World Cup, and Weah paid for the national team’s kit and travel out of his own pocket. He was elected president of Liberia in 2018.
