In Poland, France got off to the perfect start in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2–0 win over Ukraine at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw.

Lined up with an attacking formation, France didn’t disappoint early on, asserting their tactical and territorial dominance. Michael Olise opened the scoring with a superb team move. On the left, Barcola was found, drove into the box, held up play, and laid it off for Olise to net his first goal of the match.

France then kept piling on the pressure, creating plenty of chances to widen the gap, but the final touch was lacking.
The start of the second half proved tougher, with Ukraine pushing for an equalizer. A shot off the post spared Les Bleus after a scramble from a dangerous free kick. As things grew tense for France, and with Dembélé, who had come on as a sub, forced off injured, Mbappé sealed the win thanks to a brilliant assist from Tchouaméni.
With this victory, France sits second in the group, level on points with Iceland but ahead on goal difference.
