Overview

The Azerbaijan national football team represents Azerbaijan in international association football and is governed by the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, which was founded in 1992 following the country's independence. The team competes in UEFA qualifying competitions and has not won a major senior international title. Azerbaijan plays its home matches at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium in Baku, named after the Soviet-era linesman who officiated in the 1966 FIFA World Cup final.

The squad has developed gradually since the federation's establishment, drawing players from domestic clubs as well as professionals active in European leagues. Among the current notable players are S. Ağayev, E. Balayev, A. Bayramov, R. Cəfərov, Ş. Məhəmmədəliyev, and R. Abbasov. The team has participated in qualifying rounds for the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship on multiple occasions, though it has not progressed to the final stages of either tournament.
