Savinho set for Spurs move worth up to £85m after telling City he wanted out

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign Manchester City winger Savinho for an initial £75m, with up to £10m in add-ons, according to reports from The Athletic, BBC Sport, Sky Sports, and The Guardian. The 22-year-old Brazilian is scheduled to undergo a medical on Friday ahead of signing a proposed five-year contract, with the option of a further year.

City’s record sale is the £82m package Atletico Madrid paid for Julian Alvarez in 2024. Savinho would pass that mark only if the full £10m of add-ons is triggered. City signed him from CFG-owned Troyes for roughly £30.8m in 2024, so the profit runs to about £45m on the guaranteed fee alone.

The deal itself

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that £5m of the potential add-ons are considered highly achievable, meaning City could realistically receive at least £80m. The proposed contract runs for five years, with an option to extend by a further year, tying Savinho to north London through 2031 or 2032.

Tottenham had tried to sign Savinho last summer, with discussions involving a package worth around £43m at the time. City declined to sell and instead extended his contract in October 2025 through 2031. Ten months later he has the move he wanted, and City are collecting £75m rather than the £43m discussed at the time.

Why Savinho wanted out

City head coach Enzo Maresca made no attempt to obscure the situation. Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “It’s quite clear when players want to leave, for any reason, then it’s complicated to convince them to stay or change their thoughts. It happened with Rodri, the same thing is happening with Savinho. Since day one he asked me that he wants to leave. So now we are waiting.”

Savinho managed only seven starts in 24 Premier League appearances last season, scoring once and setting up two goals, per Sky Sports. He was also left out of the City squad for the Community Shield on August 16, a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in Cardiff, by which point his departure was already in motion.

Savinho’s background and path to the Premier League

Born in Brazil, Savinho came through the academy at Atletico Mineiro before moving to CFG-affiliated Troyes in 2022. Loan spells at PSV Eindhoven and Girona followed, with his time in Spain drawing attention from clubs across Europe. City formally brought him into their first-team setup in 2024.

BBC Sport credits him with 84 appearances for City, seven goals and 13 assists across two seasons. Many of those came off the bench rather than as a starter.

What it means for Tottenham

Savinho would be the latest arrival at Spurs this summer. The club has already brought in Sandro Tonali for £100m from Newcastle, Mateus Fernandes for £85m from West Ham, and Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m from Brighton, alongside free agents Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi stopped short of confirming the deal publicly. “It’s not right to speak about the players until they are official,” he told BBC Sport, before adding: “Just to say, I’m very happy. We have not finished yet in the transfer market.” Tottenham are also reported to be in advanced talks to sign City forward Omar Marmoush in a separate deal.

FAQ

How much are Tottenham paying for Savinho?
An initial £75m, with up to £10m in add-ons that could take the total to £85m. At least £5m of those add-ons are considered highly achievable, so City are likely to receive at least £80m.

Would Savinho be Manchester City’s record sale?
Only if the add-ons are triggered. The guaranteed £75m falls short of the £82m package Atletico Madrid paid for Julian Alvarez in 2024; the full £85m would beat it.

How old is Savinho and what position does he play?
Savinho is 22 years old and plays as a winger. He is Brazilian and came through the Atletico Mineiro academy before moving to Europe in 2022.

What contract will Savinho sign at Tottenham?
