Overview
Wales is one of the oldest national football teams in the world. The Football Association of Wales was founded in 1876, making it among the earliest football governing bodies established anywhere. The team competes in UEFA qualifying competitions and has historically drawn its players from the domestic Welsh leagues as well as the English Football League and Premier League.
Wales has not won a major international senior tournament. The team reached the quarter-finals of the 1958 FIFA World Cup, which remains its best performance at that competition. A notable generation of players led Wales to the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2016, a significant achievement in the country's football history.
