Association Sportive de Monaco FC was founded in 1919 and competes in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football. The club plays its home matches at the Stade Louis-II, located in the Fontenille district of Monaco. Despite being based in the Principality of Monaco, the club participates in the French football league system. Monaco won multiple Ligue 1 titles during the latter decades of the twentieth century and reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2004, where they were defeated by Porto. A further league title followed in 2017.
The club has a history of developing and attracting notable talent. Current squad members include goalkeeper Lukas Hrádecký, defender Eric Dier, and several other international players. Monaco is owned by Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev, who acquired the club in 2011. The club's colours are red and white, and it remains one of the more prominent clubs in French football.
