Overview
Rayo Vallecano is a Spanish football club founded in 1924, based in the Vallecas district of Madrid. The club competes in La Liga, the top division of Spanish football, and plays its home matches at the Estadio de Vallecas. Vallecas is a working-class neighbourhood, and the club has long been associated with its local community and left-wing political identity, which distinguishes it from many of its contemporaries.
The club has spent much of its history moving between the first and second divisions. It has never won a major domestic title, but has produced competitive La Liga campaigns on several occasions and reached Copa del Rey finals in the past.
The current squad includes goalkeeper Dani Cárdenas, defenders Juanpe, Adrián Molina, I. Balliu, and Pep Chavarría, and forward A. Batalla, among others. The club continues to represent its community in Spain's top flight.
