Real Sociedad is a Spanish football club based in San Sebastián, in the Basque Country. Founded in 1909, the club competes in La Liga, the top division of Spanish football. Their home ground is the Reale Arena, a stadium located in the city centre. The club has traditionally drawn its identity from the Basque region, and for several decades operated a policy of fielding only Basque players, though this was later relaxed.
The club enjoyed its greatest sustained success in the early 1980s, winning back-to-back La Liga titles in 1981 and 1982. They have also competed in European competition on multiple occasions. A Copa del Rey title and several strong league campaigns have kept them among the established clubs of Spanish football.
