Overview

Egypt is one of the most successful national football teams in Africa. The Egyptian Football Association was founded in 1921, making it among the oldest football federations on the continent. The team has won the Africa Cup of Nations seven times, with titles in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010. Three consecutive titles between 2006 and 2010 represent the longest winning run in the tournament's history.

The squad draws players from Egyptian domestic clubs as well as from leagues across Europe. Mohamed Salah, who plays his club football in England, is the team's most prominent current player and its all-time leading scorer. Goalkeepers Mohamed El Shenawy and M. Alaa provide experienced options between the posts, while Mohamed Abdelmonem and Hossam Abdelmaguid are established figures in defence.

Egypt competes in World Cup qualification and continental fixtures throughout the year, with a match scheduled for July 2026 qualifying.
