Henry is Arsenal’s record scorer by a distance of more than fifty goals. He arrived in 1999 as a winger who had failed at Juventus, was converted to centre-forward by Wenger, and spent eight seasons scoring goals that mostly began somewhere near the left touchline.
He was the central figure of the Invincibles, the Arsenal side that went through the 2003–04 league season unbeaten — still the only team to manage it over thirty-eight matches. He won the Premier League Golden Boot four times and the league title twice, and finished second in the Ballon d’Or in 2003.
The Champions League came at Barcelona in 2009, in a side built around Messi where Henry was no longer the reference point. He finished at the New York Red Bulls, in the league that had brought Pelé over three decades earlier.
