Overview

Liechtenstein competes in international football as one of the smallest nations affiliated with UEFA and FIFA. The Liechtenstein Football Association was founded in 1934, and the national team has participated in qualification campaigns for the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship without advancing beyond the qualifying stages. The team has not won a major senior international title. Given the country's small population, professional infrastructure is limited, and most players compete abroad in Swiss or other European leagues.

The squad has included several players who have gained experience at the semi-professional level. Current notable figures include B. Büchel, G. Foser, L. Lo Russo, J. Ospelt, N. Beck and P. Gaßner. Despite the competitive challenges inherent in facing much larger nations during qualifying, Liechtenstein has occasionally secured draws against stronger opponents, which have been regarded as significant achievements relative to the team's circumstances.
