Unione Sportiva Sassuolo Calcio was founded in 1922 in Sassuolo, a town in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. The club competes in Serie A, the top tier of Italian football, and plays its home matches at the MAPEI Stadium, Città del Tricolore, located in Reggio Emilia. The stadium is shared with Reggio Audace and is owned by MAPEI, the chemical company that has served as the club's principal sponsor and owner since 2002.
Sassuolo spent much of its history in the lower divisions of Italian football before rising steadily through the leagues in the 2000s and 2010s. The club achieved its first promotion to Serie A in 2013 and subsequently established itself as a consistent presence in the top flight, qualifying for European competition on several occasions during the 2010s.
Current players in the squad include goalkeeper Ay han Murić, defenders Jensen Idzes and Josh Doig, and Simone Turati among others. The club continues to operate in Serie A.
