Torino won multiple Italian league titles in the 1940s, a period during which the club was widely regarded as the dominant force in Italian football. That era ended tragically in May 1949, when the entire first-team squad was killed in the Superga air disaster, one of the most significant tragedies in football history.
The club has continued to operate in the decades since, experiencing periods in both Serie A and Serie B. Torino's colours are traditionally granata, a dark red shade that gives the club its common nickname, Il Toro. Current squad members include goalkeepers F. Israel and A. Paleari, defender C.
