Overview

The Venezuela national football team represents the country in international association football and is governed by the Federación Venezolana de Fútbol, which was founded in 1926. The team competes within CONMEBOL, South America's governing body for football, and participates regularly in the Copa América and FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns. Venezuela has not won a major senior international title to date and has never qualified for a FIFA World Cup finals. The team is sometimes referred to by the nickname "La Vinotinto," a reference to the deep red colour of its traditional kit.

In recent decades the team has shown periods of competitive improvement within the CONMEBOL region. Current notable players in the squad include J. Camargo, J. Contreras, J. Graterol, Javier Otero, C. Varela, and D. Alfonzo. Venezuela has historically relied on domestically developed talent alongside players competing abroad in various professional leagues across the Americas and Europe.
